“THE CROW AND THE PITCHER”

 Short Story

A Crow, half-dead with thirst, came upon a Pitcher which had once been full of water; but when the Crow put its beak into the mouth of the Pitcher he found that only very little water was left in it, and that he could not reach far enough down to get at it. He tried, and he tried, but at last had to give up in despair. 

Un Cuervo, medio muerto de sed, se encontró con un jarra que una vez estuvo lleno de agua; pero cuando el Cuervo puso su pico en la boca del jarrón, descubrió que solo quedaba muy poca agua en ella, y que no podía bajar lo suficiente para alcanzarla. Lo intentó, y lo intentó, pero al final tuvo que rendirse en la desesperación.

Then a thought came to him, and he took a pebble and dropped it into the Pitcher. Then he took another pebble and dropped it into the Pitcher. Then he took another pebble and dropped that into the Pitcher. 

Entonces un pensamiento vino a él, y él tomó un guijarro y lo dejó caer en el jarrón. Luego tomó otro guijarro y lo dejó caer en la jarra. Luego tomó otro guijarro y lo dejó caer en la jarra.

Then he took another pebble and dropped that into the Pitcher. Then he took another pebble and dropped that into the Pitcher.

Then he took another pebble and dropped that into the Pitcher. At last, at last, he saw the water mount up near him, and after casting in a few more pebbles he was able to quench his thirst and save his life.

Luego tomó otra piedra y lo dejó caer en la jarra. Por fin, al fin, vio que el agua se acumulaba cerca de él, y después de arrojar unas cuantas piedras más, pudo saciar su sed y salvar su vida.

Little by little does the trick.
